The Rubicon Project is not my project, it is the name of a (at the moment Beta) web advertising service. The concept is that rather than having a single service (e.g. Google, AdBrite, CPX) serve up your advertisements you can have all of them provide content and then rate each network for performance. The next step is to optimize by presenting more advertisements from networks that give the greatest number of click thru events and therefore the highest revenue to your web site.
You can read more about the project at The Rubicon Project. Once one has signed up one gets access to the Dashboard and also gets access to the JavaScript code necessary to implement the advertising. One unusual feature of the project is that you can only access the dashboard web site with Firefox.
We received our OK today to join the private beta and signed into the site. After the normal process of setting up a user-id, password, address, payment options, etc. we were presented with four blocks of JavaScript code, each block representing a particular format. The formats are 468x60 banner, 728x90 Leaderboard, 160x600 Skyscraper, and 300x250 Medium Rectangle. We went out to our Reboot Racing Blog and started installing the code. We didn't get very far before we discovered that one of our most frequently used formats 180x150 Small Rectangle is not currently supported by Rubicon. We have emailed them and will let you know their response. Now we are waiting for the ad server to catch up and start presenting ads.
